Oracle VM Terminology

Oracle VM(OVM) Consists of two components:

        1.Oracle VM Server(OVS)
        2. Oracle VM Manager(OVMM)

Oracle VM Server(OVS):

                      Oracle VM Server is a stripped version of Oracle Enterprise Linux with Xen Hypervisor, an agent to communicate withe OVMM and a small DB

Oracle VM Manager(OVMM):

                       Oracle VM Manager is used to manage the OVS Like Creating VM's and other administrative tasks

Why OVM?

  1. Oracle application products like Oracle Database, Weblogic and other applications of oracle are not certified for VMWARE and Oracle Support will not support any unknow issues that occur on Oracle applications (Database/Weblogic/Other apps)  running on VMWARE and Oracle support will request to reproduce the same in any of the Oracle certified environment.

  2. Sub capacity Licensing is not supported in VMware Environment and should be licensed  for the whole physical machine when using VMware and if it's a VMware Cluster than the licensing will be the sum of all the boxes in the cluster

  3. Easy to deploy Oracle Products(Templates were Provided by Oracle with the recommended Configurations)
